Healthcare Marketplace Individual Sessions
Do you have questions or concerns about the new Healthcare Marketplace (a.k.a. Obamacare)? CareNet Navigator Michael Culp will offer one-on-one sessions in the Staff Room on Mondays from 10—Noon. He will work with anyone who wants to apply for the Healthcare Marketplace.
Navigators have knowledge of all QHP options, as well as Medicaid, CHIP, and behavioral health plans (if applicable). Additionally, Navigators conduct outreach and education; provide fair, impartial information on all QHP options; provide culturally and linguistically competent information in a manner that is accessible for all; and refer grievances and appeals to appropriate state and federal authorities.
Upcycling Class
Does turning something old into something new interest you? Consider joining us for one of our Upcycling classes with Laura Johnson. Learn some of the basics of creating new and useful things out of old things you might have thrown away. Laura will show you how to turn an old button up shirt into a chic new apron. All supplies will be provided. This event is free, but registration is required. Call or stop by the main desk to register. Mon, May 5th, 4-6pm and Mon, May 12th, 4-6pm.
Blood Drive
[red cross logo] The library will host a Blood Drive in the community room. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS to make an appointment. (Walk-ins may be accepted as the schedule allows.) Thu, May 29th, 10-Noon.
Movie Night
Enjoy a free showing of a popular movie on our big screen. The movie is set during WWII. Ask at the desk for the title. Refreshments will be served. This event is free, but registration is required. Call or stop by the main desk to sign up. Sat, Jul 19th, 2-4pm.
Author Event and Book Signing
John McGuire will be available upstairs to sign copies of his book, The Fixer: Iron Mountain.

Do you enjoy a good mystery? Do you want to meet a local author? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you won't want to miss John McGuire's book signing.

The book follows the new friendship between Doc and Jake. Doc recently gave up working as a handyman and began work as a surveyor to help pay the bills. Jake is a law enforcer who is fairly new to town and a bit of a lone wolf. Their small college town has become overrun with crime and large body counts. Doc starts seeing visions in his sleep of missing persons and goes to Jake to investigate. They come together as an unexpected crime solving team and try to save the town.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase. No registration is required for this event; simply stop by at any time during McGuire's visit.

Bingo for Books
Play for your chance to win free copies of books by popular authors, including best-selling novels as well as non-fiction titles. Light refreshments will be served. For ages 18 and older. Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library
Join us for a fun scavenger hunt based on the book by Chris Grabenstein. For grades 3-6. Registration is required. Call or stop by the children's room to sign up. Sat, May 17th, 2-4pm.
Splat the Cat Activity Time
Registration is required. For grades K-2, but please bring an adult with you. Sat, May 3rd, 2-3:30pm.
Fizz Boom Read: Summer Reading 2014
Children up to age 12 can register beginning May 31st. Pick up your reading log, book bag, a bookmark, and books to read.
From June 1st through July 26th, use your reading log to mark any day that you read at least ten minutes. Beginning readers and -pre-readers may count days on which books are read to them.
After you have read for five days and marked them on your calendar, bring the log back to the library to receive a prize and get your reading log stamped.

There will be a pool party at Heise Park Pool, July 26th from 5-7pm. All the children who read at least 25 days will be invited to attend.
SRP 2014: Spark a Reaction
Register beginning May 31st at the children's desk (downstairs) to receive your bookmark, book bag, reading log, and book review forms.
After reading a book, fill out a review form and place it in one of the boxes for the weekly prize drawing of your choice. You may submit up to 10 book reviews per week. All entries will be saved for the final Grand Prize drawings.
Each time you submit a review, get your reading log stamped. When you have read and reviewed five books, you will receive a free book. After ten books, you can choose a second free book or a certificate worth $5 off overdue fines on your library card.
Participate in any of our special summer events and receive a bonus ticket to enter into a weekly drawing of your choice.

Individuals ages 12-18 may participate in the teen summer reading program. You may only participate in one summer reading program. (6th graders from the 2013-2014 school year may participate in either the children's or teen program; 2014 grads may participate in either the teen or adult program; but you cannot participate in both during the same summer.) No teen may win more than two weekly drawings. Reviewed books should be on your reading level. Books can be print books or audio books. Limit 10 book review submissions per teen per week. Bonus tickets from events do not count against the limit of 10 per week.
Literary Elements: Adult Summer Reading 2014
Registration begins May 31st for this free program. Signup, read books, and enter drawings every week for gift cards from local merchants. Everyone who registers will also receive a certificate good for one free book from the Friends of the Library book sales.
For each book you read this summer, fill out a drawing slip and put it into your preferred prize drawing box. Weekly prize drawings will take place each Friday throughout the Adult Summer Reading program. Even if you don't win the weekly prize, your ticket could still be a winner: all the tickets submitted throughout the summer are saved for the grand prize drawing.

Winners will be notified by phone. You must be at least 18 years old and out of school to participate, and you must register for the programs in order to enter the weekly drawings. Participants are eligible to win a maximum of two weekly prizes each.
Dive into Summer Reading, Party on the Lawn
No need to register for this party: just come have fun, water games, crafts, face painting, and other activities in our annual summer reading kickoff party. You can even bring your parents, as long as you promise to have more fun than they do. There will also be refreshments. In the event of rain, we'll still have the party, but we'll move it indoors. Summer Reading 2014
The Summer Reading program is coming up fast for adults (Mad Science), for teens, and for kids (Fizz, Boom, Read!)
Try Something New at Story Time
Summer Story Time starts June 9th. Join us Mondays at 6:30pm and Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30am. This program is intended for preschool-aged children. You do not need to register for story times: you can just come.
Read with Our Friend Griff
Please call ahead to reserve your reading time with our favorite dog. Griff, an American Labrador Retriever, will be here from 4-5pm on Tuesdays, from June 10th through July 29th. Griff is a trained therapy dog, part of Therapy Dogs International's Tail Waggin' Tutors program. Parents can sign their children up for a ten-minute session of reading to Griff. Call the library or stop by the children's room to sign up.
Can You Stop It?
Learn the principles of stop-motion animation and create a very-short short. Registration is required. Call or stop by the main desk to sign up. Mon, Jun 23rd, 3-5pm.
Will It Work?

Explore Science at Friday Crafternoons
Drop in any time between 3 and 4pm for science-themed crafts and experiments to explore the wild side of science. This program is for grades K-6, and you don't need to register: just come.
Meet Ozzie Davis
Meet a local self-published author. Ms. Davis will be reading from and signing her books. Proceeds from book purchases will be donated to Wounded Warrior Project. Registration is required for this event. Stop by the children's room to sign up. Sat, Jun 7th, 3:30-4:30pm.
Chef Battle
Cooking Caravan will be here to present this special mobile competition, pitting two Caravan chefs against each other in an Iron Chef-style cooking battle that uses audience members as sous chefs! Life-Size Clue

Phantasmagorical Steampunk Extravaganza
Join Jim Kleefeld for a fantastical exploration of mechanical contrivances, including working Victorian contraptions, gear and clockwork mechanisms, and incredible fictional adventures. For ages 12-18. Registration is required. Call or stop by the library to sign up. Thu, Jul 31st, 6:30-7:30pm.
Drop a Beat, Rock the Mic
Learn to mix, mash, and scratch beats at the DJ center, while participants at the MC center are learning to write and perform rhymed couplets on a live microphone. This hands-on program combines music theory and literacy and ends with a wild performance. Registration is required: call or stop by the library to sign up. Sat, Aug 9th, 3:30-4:30pm.
Chess Club
Join us for a casual game, or enter our continuing ladder tournament and see how many opponents you can knock down a rung. You do not need to register for the chess club: you can just show up.
Anime Club
Join us this summer as we build kites (June), create paper art (July), cosplay (August), and enjoy anime (every month). Teens in grades 7-12 do not need to register for the anime club: you can just show up.
Book Sale
The Friends will be holding their bi-annual public used book sale.
Plein Aire Art Show
An art show on the library lawn is being planned by the Brush and Palette Club. Over 200 invitations have been sent out to various artists throughout the surrounding area. Watch this space for more information as summer approaches. Sat, Jun 28th.
Ohio Bird Sanctuary
The Ohio Bird Sanctuary (from Mansfield) will be here to present a live bird-of-prey show. We'll get to see at least three birds representing the hawk, owl, falcon, or vulture families. Registration is required and opens the Thursday before the show. Wed, Jun 18th at 2pm and Wed, Jun 18th at 6pm.
Mr. Molecule's Big Bang Boom Science Show
When Mr. Molecule unleashes the power and excitement of science (Bing! Bang! Boom), he creates an explosion of learning that kids can't resist. See the fantastic 12-foot-tall Foam Monster, the impossible Balloons in Orbit, and the hysterically funny Bermoulli TP Challenge, all based on essential science principles. Mad Science of Northeast Ohio

Crawford Park District

Zap Entertainment Science Magic Show

Looking for something new to read? Join us the last Friday of the month. We'll discuss bestsellers, books we're currently reading, and books that are new at the library. We also serve coffee and baked treats. 10am the last Friday of each month.
Board of Trustees
The board meets at the library at 4pm on the third Monday of each month.
Spring Chess Club

New members in grades 4-12 are invited to join at any time. Refreshments are provided. You don't need to register for this: it's OK to just show up.
Storytime
Join us Mondays at 6:30pm, Tuesdays at 10:30am, and Wednesdays at 10:30am for stories, songs, crafts, and lots of fun. Spring storytimes in 2014 are planned from January 13th through April 16th, plus April 28th, 29th, and 30th.
