Friends of the Library Materials Donation Policy
The Friends may accept donations of books, magazines, audio books, vinyl records, puzzles, games, CDs, DVDs, and BluRay discs.
Donations should be clean and in good condition.
The following are not accepted:
Donations will not be accepted with stipulations: all donations become the property of the Friends of the Library. Donated materials cannot be returned. Some donations may be added to the library collection, but this is not guaranteed. The same policies for inclusion in the library's collection apply to donated materials regardless of whether they are used or newly purchased. Any items not added to the collection will be sold through the Friends of the Library Book Sales or donated to a third party. Dirty, musty, or damaged items, or those that cannot be sold or donated, will be recycled or discarded. (If you wish to donate materials for the collection, e.g., in honor or in memory of a loved one, you must speak to the library director. The Friends do not handle these types of requests.)
Materials may be donated at the library during regular library hours. Normally, items must be of a manageable quantity and weight for the person making the donation to carry them into the library without assistance if there are no Friends, volunteers, or available library staff to assist. (Special donation events are sometimes held; at those times, people are available to help carry boxes. If you need to make a very large donation at some other time, please speak to someone in advance.)
The library cannot make any monetary appraisal of donated materials. Persons wishing for verification of their donation for tax purposes are solely responsible for reporting the number of items and must make their own estimate of the value of the donated materials. The library staff at the main circulation desk can provide and initial a Donated Materials Report upon request as an acknowledgement of the donation.
The Friends of the Library reserves the right to decline to accept any used material at the time of donation. The above list of materials that are not accepted is a guideline only and is not intended to be an entirely complete list.
