Mobile Hotspots
Check out the internet just like a book at Galion Public Library.
Thanks to a partnership with Sprint, the GPL is now offering mobile hotspots to its patrons. A mobile hotspot is a portable device that provides internet access to any Wi-Fi enabled device. They can be used anywhere — at home, in a car, in the park — any place covered by the Sprint network.
Below are the guidelines for checking out the mobile hotspots:
- Borrower must be an adult and have an active GPL (or COOL) library card.
- Borrower may not check out more than one hotspot at a time.
- Borrower must return the hotspot and all accessories (case, adapter and USB cord)
in order for it to be deemed returned.
- Hotspots are checked out for 2 weeks, no renewals.
- Patrons may place a hold on a hotspot.
However, you must wait 24 hours after returning one device before checking out another hotspot.
- Hotspots must be returned to a staff member at the GPL Circulation Desk during library hours.
This means hotspots may
not be returned in a book drop
or to other libraries, even if they are also a member of
COOL.
- If the hotspot is lost or not returned by the due date, the wireless service will be terminated
and the hotspot will become unusable.
- Internet access through the hotspot is provided by Sprint and is subject to Sprint's
Acceptable Use Policy,
Privacy Policy,
and Terms of Use.
The following are the fines and fees for mobile hotspots:
- $2 fine per day
- $5 fine for returning a hotspot through the book drop
- $60 fee to replace a lost hotspot and accessories
Activity Kits
Be creative and enjoy new experiences in the privacy of your home.
How does it work?
- You must be 18 or older to check out the Orion Starblast Telescope and the Mobile HotSpots. For all other kits, you must be at least 13 years old.
- Speak to the librarian at the Circulation Desk to request an Activity Kit.
- To check out, you must have an active library card in our system.
- If you would like to borrow a mobile hotspot, you must sign a rental agreement.
- Enjoy for 7-14 days, and return.

including replacement of the whole set if items cannot be purchased individually.
- Please clean appropriate items after use.
- Most kits circulate for one week.
(Mobile hotspots circulate for two weeks.)
- Late fees are $1 per day on kits, except for mobile hotspots, which are $2 per day.
- Mobile hotspots cannot be renewed.
Other kits can be renewed unless there is a hold for another patron.
- Library staff will examine the contents with you when checking a kit in or out.
