Closed for Staff Training

The library will be closed all day so that our staff can receive Red Cross training. As usual, any items returned in the book drop while we are closed will count as having come back before we closed the previous evening. Thu, Jan 12^th.

Food For Fines

We will be running a Food for Fines promotion during the month of February. We must insist that all donated items meet all of the following criteria:

non-perishable
unopened
not expired (sell-by or best-by date)
suitable for donation to a local food pantry

For each qualifying item you donate, we will knock a dollar off your library fine. Offer good only during the month of February, 2017.

Care for Aging Pets

Do you have an aging pet? Join us as John Lizotte of Rescued Rollers presents tips and advice about caring for and communicating with senior and special-needs pets. Topics include dogs that are blind or losing sight, deaf or losing hearing, paralyzed or mobility challenged, or incontinent. Rescued Rollers will bring a selection of items commonly used in the care of senior or special needs pets, including a wheelchair for dogs, lifting harnesses, boots, incontinence products, and more. Thu, Feb 9^th at 6pm.

Masquerade Party: Masks, Mystery, and Music

All attendees should wear a mask. Masks should not cover the entire head, and the eyes must be visible. Costumes are highly encouraged as well. For ages 12-18. Registration is required: call or stop by the library by Friday, February 10^th to reserve your spot. Sat, Feb 11^th, 6-8pm.

Teen Mask Making

Need a mask for the party? Just want to decorate a mask? Materials will be provided (though you are welcome to bring additional materials as well). Registration is required: call or stop by the library to sign up. For ages 12-18. Fri, Feb 10^th, 4-5:30pm.

Baby Bounce

Bounces, songs, rhymes, and language activities. Ages 0-18 months only. Starts March 14^th Sign-up is required. Ask in the children's room for more information.

Family Lego Morning

Join us for fun building things out of little bricks. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Children are invited to work individually or with their families for a building challenge and free play using our Lego kits. All building supplies will be provided. Space is limited. Membership Drive

During the month of March, The Friends of the Library are holding a special membership drive.

Throughout this organization's history thousands of active volunteer hours have been proudly devoted to assisting the library staff with materials and supplies so they may provide the community of Galion with up-to-date programs and activities for both youths and adults.

Through the generous efforts of the Friends this past year, some of the items the library staff was able to purchase were several conference tables, computers, the popular Lego Kits plus several other valuable materials. They were also able to help defray the Director's expenses when she attended a world wide conference held in Columbus.

Most of the Friends proceeds come from various planned events through the year such as the Spring and Fall Book Sales, Twelve Days of Christmas, booths at the Farmers Market and Pickle Run festival, plus other interesting income producing programs and events.

Since the beginning the Friends of the Library have maintained their membership dues at $5.00 per year. A member not only receives a quarterly newsletter listing all the activities of the Friends, but also receives first choice of choosing specific books prior to the biannual book sales. But, most important, the member receives the satisfaction of helping to make the Galion Public Library one of the finest institutions in Central Ohio. If you would like to volunteer some of your time with other like-minded volunteers, please pick up membership literature at the front desk of the library.

The library lets you borrow the beauty and keep the knowledge.

Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow more light.

Thursday Night Movie

Star Wars Marathon

Summer Reading: Build a Better World

Children ages up through age 12 can register beginning June 1^st, and pick up a reading log.

use your reading log calendar to mark any day that you read (or someone reads to you) for at least 20 minutes, from June 1^st through July 29^th. After you have read for 5 days and marked them on your calendar, bring your reading log back to the library to receive a prize and to get your reading log stamped.

Sing and Sign Babytime

Paint Night After Hours

Daniel Boone

Join us as Living History Productions lecturer, author, and historian Ken Hammontree brings the legendary frontiersman to life. The event will be held on the library lawn, weather permitting. Build A Better World: Adult Summer Reading

Summer Reading will kick off June 1^st and run through July 29^th. You can sign up any time between those dates. It's super easy to participate: every book you read earns you a ticket for your choice of our weekly prize drawings. The first 100 people to sign up will receive a free reusable book tote.

Astronomy 101

Interested in the upcoming solar eclipse, or the night sky in general? Dan Everly will be giving an informative presentation on the wonders of the night sky and how to view the solar eclipse safely. Make-It Take-It Crafts

Lego Club

Kids ages 5-12 are invited to join us and build on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month from 4:30-5:30pm. You do not need to register for this program, you can just show up.

Blanket Tying Service Project

Individuals of all ages are invited to drop in to the Children's Room every Saturday this June and July to tie fleece blankets. Completed blankets will be donated to local nursing homes.

Maker Space: Buttons

All ages are invited to create their own button designs. Completed designs will be turned into inch-and-a-half buttons using our button maker. All supplies will be provided. Stuffed Animal Sleepover

You and your stuffed animal friend are invited to the library for pajama party fun. Afterward, your stuffed friend can stay and spend the night. We'll have teddy-bear-themed stories, crafts, and activities. All participants will get pictures of their stuffed friends having fun at the library after hours. The Friends would like to issue a big Thank You to Galion and the surrounding area for your support and donations, which made our Fall Book Sale a tremendous success. The Friends of the Library use these funds for various projects and efforts to increase the services available at the library. We truly appreciate the generosity of the community.
